March 27, 1961 – January 6, 2025

Matthew George DeMaire, more commonly known as Matt, Matty, “Mattamaire” or his personal favorite — Yampy (Grampy), passed away unexpectedly at home on January 6, 2025, at the age of 63. Born on March 27, 1961, in Cumberland, RI, Matthew was the son of Laurene (Cournoyer) DeMaire and the late Roger DeMaire. He was known for his sense of humor, generosity, and hardworking spirit.

Matt was the beloved husband of the late Joan (McEvoy) DeMaire, with whom he shared nearly 30 wonderful years of marriage before her passing in 2018. Together, they built a beautiful life and family, raising three daughters who were his pride and joy: Katelyn DeMaire of Manville, RI, Karly (Jordan) Edwards of Grain Valley, MO, and Kelsy (John) Microulis of Manville, RI. Matt’s legacy also lives on in his five cherished grandchildren: Natalia and Trey Guevarez, Ayva and Ayden Edwards, and Jack Microulis, all of whom adored their Yampy beyond words.

In addition to his mother, children, and grandchildren, Matt also leaves behind 11 siblings and their families as well as his late father’s wife, Carol DeMaire, all of whom he loved deeply. Fiercely protective of his family, Matthew’s devotion to his loved ones was unwavering, and his strength and care created an enduring bond among them.

Matthew was proud and dedicated member of the Laborers’ International Union, Local 271, for many decades. While Matt was a hardworking man who took immense pride in his work, he found the most joy in life’s simplest pleasures. We will remember him when we hear his favorite classic rock songs, share mildly inappropriate jokes, and most importantly, whenever we stop to admire the moon.

Matthew’s warmth and humor left an indelible mark on everyone he met, and his generosity of spirit will be forever remembered by all who knew him.

A celebration of Matthew’s life will be held on Saturday, January 18, 2025 from 2pm-5pm at Keefe Funeral Home, 5 Higginson Avenue, Lincoln, RI. Burial Private.
